Shiatsu Connects Self- Care with Jenny

Shiatsu exercises and acupressure can be used in daily life as ‘bite-size chunks’, which can be used as part of a daily routine to encourage physical and emotional well-being; or when experiencing physical aches and pains; or when some emotional ‘first-aid’ is needed during times of stress and anxiety.

Jenny’s aim is to empower people to help themselves in times of difficulty. During the workshops, she introduces gentle self-Shiatsu techniques, acupressure points, self-compassion/mindfulness of touch, and some simple tension release exercises to use in time of need, to reduce feelings of stress, anxiety and tension in the mind and body.

In each hour-long session:

  • We start with some simple mindful movement to connect, warm up and regulate the nervous system.
  • Shiatsu exercises and qi gong to support and balance the mind and body.
  • Acupressure points to address a range of conditions, e.g. areas of pain, insomnia, headaches and migraines, digestive issues, stress and anxiety.
  • At the end of each session, we share a virtual hug, a Q&A discussion and time for a chat, to connect as a community.

These sessions are drop-in and suitable for beginners and all physical abilities.  Please feel free to drop Jenny a line if you have any questions or concerns, or if you are curious to know more about Shiatsu.

Jenny gently guides you through range of self-care techniques based on Shiatsu theory and practices, focusing on supporting your physical and emotional well-being. These sessions are co-created by the group, and we take requests so that these sessions are useful and relevant to the needs of the individual and the group. In recent sessions, we have had requests for tips to support with emotional fatigue; lower back issues; knee pain; jaw/neck/shoulder tension; stress, anxiety.

Jenny White, from Shiatsu Connects, is offering regular online sessions on Tuesdays at 4pm and Thursday at 6pm.

Jenny wants to make these sessions accessible to everyone, so Online Shiatsu Connects sessions are a ‘pay-what-you-can-afford’ scale. Normally people pay between £5-£10 per session, or the price of a cup of tea if you are financially affected during these Covid Times.

Jenny has a background in community development and mental health social care. She completed her three-year Zen Shiatsu Practitioner training and began practicing whilst living and working at Holy Isle Retreat Centre, Arran. She moved to Edinburgh in 2014 where she offers one to one Shiatsu therapy sessions and delivers a range of Shiatsu and Wellbeing workshops in partnership with a range of organisations and community settings across the UK, in person and online.

She has a regular meditation practice and her main teachers are Tsoknyi Rinpoche and Mingyur Rinpoche. She facilitates practice sessions within the Edinburgh Tergar Meditation Community.

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a holistic Japanese touch therapy based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupressure and energy psychology.  Shiatsu can support you to deal with the stresses and strains, and aches and pains that may occur in everyday life. It can help with physical and emotional issues which may appear in the body as pain or illness. It can also help to maintain good health and well-being in a proactive, preventative way.
